A Very Motown Thanksgiving

(AKA, Our Week of Saturdays because everyday is a Saturday with Trish around!) So Trish-a-lish came to visit for Thanksgiving and we tried to cram as much awesomeness and crafting into a brief little weekend together. Though we didn't make it to Canada, we did make it to Mexicantown (surprised? didn't think so...we would eat there everyday if we could).

And, in true Thanksgiving miracle style, we got to hang out with Tess and her lovely family! We haven't seen each other in years and it was magical to see her again, especially next to a sombrero-wearing churro.

Lupita's taqueria. One day we'll branch out...

Riding the People Mover

Just preparing for my future career ("It would be my pleasure..." ack) at downtown Detroit's Heidelberg Project.

This will be the cover of The Me Oh Mys album. Love family portrait-style photos

We picked up a few necessities at Kmart's Black Friday sale (yes, owl hats are necessities)

And enjoyed the holiday spirit at Greenfield Village

With hats perched on our heads

And carousel carousing <--I wasn't an English major for nothing, as you can tell with that word combo

We pet-sat a few critters (Nutmeg the guinea pig and Daisy the cat) Warren was in heaven.

We got our craft on and made a thousand pillows that included beaded trim. So domestic!

Of course, we topped all that off with a hot wings fest. Because nothing says Thanksgiving like a post turkey wing fest.

Warren braved a new pie crust and made a delicious cinnamon bun inspired one for his apple pie.

We roasted our first (very small) turkey with great success

And had a lovely dinner with our friend Olga. Not too shabby, all things considered. Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving!

We Fall for Fall (and a new couch!)

Friends, it has been a wild month of fall goodness. The best part of the month was Marc and Andrew's glorious wedding. It was one gorgeous adventure/dance party and we were so happy to be part of the magic. Plus, we got to reunite with so many lovelies like trish-a-lish, ria girl, ash mae, vransey and thelms!

We  invested in a potato ricer, which means we've been eating the most divine, crispy hashbrowns ever.

We have fully embraced the Canadian Wunderbar. It truly is wunderful, especially mixed into a frozen yogurt shake. Warren baked all our apples into two pies, a massive apple crisp, and a gazillion apple dumplings. My hero.

Our friends took us on the People Mover (a monorail type thing that goes through downtown Detroit).

There was much galivanting to be had...
And an incredibly delicious pit stop at Astoria bakery for some mini key lime pies.

Keeping an old college tradition alive, we had some friends over to make caramel apples!

Warren judged our ward chili cook off (he totally rocked that chef's hat, am I right?)
The ancho chili I made won "Most Unique," even if it did look like roadkill...which I suppose is unique.

We made what Warren fondly calls a "giant hot pocket" filled with broccoli cheddar goodness.

But most importantly, after years of student living, we have entered the world of adults. We bought a couch! Sure, it was on clearance for half off, but it is a real live grown up couch! We Scotchguarded it and everything. Isn't it a beaut? We are particularly pleased with how the sectional opened up more space in our teensy weensy living room. So that was October!

An Apple A Day & Lil' Sebastian Returns!

This weekend has been action packed with goodness.

Exhibit A: Planning a little baby shower with tasty treats

 For this cute girl

Exhibit B: Apple picking and DELICIOUS apple donut eating at Erwin Orchards

(it was so windy, the picnic area looked like a parachute gone wild, stakes flying all over the place)

Warren found a new friend:

...and scampered up the apple trees like a little squirrel

And of course we had to visit the baby nubian goats
 And Warren made another buddy

And we watched everyone chase this mini hog:
Warren attempted to befriend a mini llama because it looked like him (lots of curly hair)

But the llama ran away repeatedly (you can see the striking resemblance in their profiles here:)

But finally, his dream came true--llama hug!

Most importantly, we got to meet Lil' Sebastian! He lives! It's true, we have an obsession with mini animals. But, come on, remember the cuteness that was Sunbun and Crew?

Exhibit C: Warren's nephew mailed us Flat Stanley for a school project. Flat Stanley is invited to visit friends and family to see famous landmarks. So this afternoon we took Flat Stanley on a vacation to....

CANADA! Well, the river walk in Windsor to see the Detroit skyline. But very exotic, yes?

We also took Flat Stanley to this awesome Dearborn site.

All in all, a pretty good weekend. Finally, I am in love with fall. And Michigan's fall does not disappoint, even though it's very short. What fall adventures have you gone on?
